Will there be errors in the server power consumption calculator?

The server power consumption calculator will inevitably have errors and can only be used as an estimation reference. It cannot completely replace the actual measurement of professional instruments.
Main sources of error:
Relying on static nominal values without matching dynamic loads: Most basic calculators directly use the theoretical TDP (thermal design power consumption) accumulation calculation provided by hardware manufacturers, completely ignoring the dynamic changes in power consumption of components such as CPU and memory with load rate in actual use - using TDP alone for estimation usually results in errors of over 30%.
The model cannot cover all influencing factors: actual power consumption will be affected by multiple factors such as hardware overclocking, power conversion efficiency (which will significantly decrease under light load), data center heat dissipation loss, hardware aging degree, disk I/O, and network throughput. The calculator is difficult to fully incorporate all variables into the model calculation.
Database update and input deviation: The new model hardware updates quickly, while some calculator databases update slowly, making it difficult to accurately match the latest hardware parameters; If users mistakenly select components or provide incomplete information when entering configuration information, it will further increase the error.
Lack of full link energy consumption: Most calculators only estimate the power consumption of the server itself. If the overall energy consumption of the computer room is required, it needs to be additionally multiplied by the PUE (Power Usage Efficiency) coefficient of the computer room. Ordinary calculators usually do not include this correction.
Error control method:
After introducing a dynamic load model optimization, the professional level calculator can control the error within 5%. The method is to first test the no-load power consumption of the server, then obtain the power consumption curves at different load rates through pressure testing, and finally estimate the formula based on the actual business average load rate. The accuracy is much higher than traditional static calculation.
