Locked out of Prime Evil Powers? Diablo 4's October 14 patch prevents new quest locks, but recovery requires finishing the seasonal questline on another character in the same partition.

Diablo 4 patch 3.2.3 prevents new seasonal quest locks caused by using a Splinter of a Prime Evil too early, but it does not reset progress for characters already affected. Those characters need a second character to complete the seasonal questline under matching mode conditions. Planning equipment spending around D4 Gold leaves that quest requirement unchanged.
Build 73883 is dated October 14, 2026, and applies to all platforms. Players checking for an update on October 15 should distinguish that search date from the patch's October 14 date.
Why the original character remains locked
Using a Splinter of a Prime Evil before finishing the seasonal questline could stop that character from completing it and accessing Prime Evil Powers, the seasonal abilities unlocked through this progression. The update prevents that early use; it does not undo the quest state left behind on an affected character. A persistent lock therefore does not, by itself, mean the preventive fix failed.
Complete the recovery in the matching partition
Create a new character in the same partition as the affected character, then complete the seasonal questline with the new character. Here, partition means the group defined by the Normal/Hardcore and Normal/SSF conditions. Both settings must match; sharing only one is insufficient for this recovery procedure.
Check those conditions before investing time in the new character. A character created under different conditions will not provide the required unlock for the affected group. Completing the questline in the matching partition unlocks Prime Evil Powers for every character within it, including the affected character. That shared access is the recovery result, not a reset of the original character's unfinished quests.
Before deciding whether to buy Diablo IV Items for later equipment plans, check the affected character's two mode settings and use them when creating the recovery character. Make matching those settings your first action, then work through the seasonal questline to completion.
